Server

Joseph asks…

Regarding training servers………………….?

My daughter and I went to Olive Garden today. Our server was training another server so we were served by two servers. How do you tip in this situation? Thank you

KL Commuter’s answers:

I am a server trainer in my restaurant. As the guest, you tip as though you had one server. The server training, is in fact training and doesnt get the tips from the guests until they start getting their own tables.
If i needed a lot of help, sometimes ill give the person training like $10 or something at the end of the night, but while they are training they get paid the full minimum wage regardless of state. So dont worry about tipping them too unless you feel it necessary.

The server that is training the new server does not have the “split” the tip with the new server. The experienced server doesnt have to give any tips to the new server.

Michael asks…

What’s Proxy Server?

Is there any online server.

KL Commuter’s answers:

Proxy server is a kind of buffer between your computer and the Internet resources you are accessing. They accumulate and save files that are most often requested by thousands of Internet users in a special database, called “cache”. Therefore, proxy servers are able to increase the speed of your connection to the Internet. The cache of a proxy server may already contain information you need by the time of your request, making it possible for the proxy to deliver it immediately. The overall increase in performance may be very high. Also, proxy servers can help in cases when some owners of the Internet resources impose some restrictions on users from certain countries or geographical regions. In addition to that, among proxy servers there are so called anonymous proxy servers that hide your IP address thereby saving you from vulnerabilities concerned with it.

William asks…

what is proxy server?

what is proxy server?where is it.

KL Commuter’s answers:

A proxy server allows you to connect to the internet ‘by proxy’. It means that your requests to access a web page are sent through another computer first.
There are many proxy servers. If you are talking about setting up some program that asks for a proxy server, this is usually not a mandatory part of the set up so you can usually skip it.
The previous answer is incorrect, a proxy server will not take control of your computer so don’t worry ;)

Sharon asks…

what is a web server?

what is a web server

KL Commuter’s answers:

A Web server is a program that, using the client/server model and the World Wide Web’s Hypertext Transfer Protocol ( HTTP ), serves the files that form Web pages to Web users (whose computers contain HTTP clients that forward their requests). Every computer on the Internet that contains a Web site must have a Web server program. Two leading Web servers are Apache , the most widely-installed Web server, and Microsoft’s Internet Information Server ( IIS ). Other Web servers include Novell’s Web Server for users of its NetWare operating system and IBM’s family of Lotus Domino servers, primarily for IBM’s OS/390 and AS/400 customers.

Web servers often come as part of a larger package of Internet- and intranet-related programs for serving e-mail, downloading requests for File Transfer Protocol ( FTP ) files, and building and publishing Web pages. Considerations in choosing a Web server include how well it works with the operating system and other servers, its ability to handle server-side programming, security characteristics, and publishing, search engine, and site building tools that may come with it.

Mary asks…

………..proxy servers?

I need a working proxy server.

KL Commuter’s answers:

In computer networks, a proxy server is a server (a computer system or an application program) that acts as a go-between for requests from clients seeking resources from other servers. A client connects to the proxy server, requesting some service, such as a file, connection, web page, or other resource, available from a different server. The proxy server evaluates the request according to its filtering rules. For example, it may filter traffic by IP address or protocol. If the request is validated by the filter, the proxy provides the resource by connecting to the relevant server and requesting the service on behalf of the client. A proxy server may optionally alter the client’s request or the server’s response, and sometimes it may serve the request without contacting the specified server. In this case, it ‘caches’ responses from the remote server, and returns subsequent requests for the same content directly.

A proxy server has two purposes:

* To keep machines behind it anonymous (mainly for security).
* To speed up access to a resource (via caching). It is commonly used to cache web pages from a web server.

A proxy server that passes requests and replies unmodified is usually called a gateway or sometimes tunneling proxy.

A proxy server can be placed in the user’s local computer or at various points between the user and the destination servers or the Internet. A reverse proxy is a proxy used as a front-end to accelerate and cache in-demand resources. (such as a web page)
