KL Commuter’s answers:

Start Dedicated Server.

Why do you want to create dedicated server anyway..?
Let big servers with good speed handle the load of players …

If you are looking for lan match, then start a dedicated server on a machine and let players join on that.

Lizzie asks…

Global Catalog Server?

Had a dying server 2003 (Server A) which was the domain controller.
Installed additional DC (Server B) which is also 2003.
Transferred the FSMO roles from Server A to Server B.

When I run DC promo on Server A, it tells me it is a Global Catalog Server ……..

How do I move Global Catalog Server from Server A to Server B.

KL Commuter’s answers:

Open Active Directory Sites and Services. Expand Sites, then your site name (could be Default-First-Site-Name), then Servers. Expand the server name and right-click on NTDS Settings and choose Properties. On the General tab is a check box for Global Catalog. Add it to one server and remove it from the other.

Chris asks…

what is the server’s funtion?

does server track us

KL Commuter’s answers:

The server as the word implies serves a particular function in the IT world. It can be an email, FTP, web server, or any other function that the software installed on it is capable of performing.

Can they track you? Well, yes…if the software installed in the server is build for that purpose.

There are many security packages to perform different task. For example, Snort is a intrusion detection system that can be run from LINUX Servers. There are other packages to scan vulnerabilities, and other capture packets on the network.

Not the most detail answer, but hope it helps understand this a bit more.

KL Commuter’s answers:

Depend of the use of the server, any computer could be a server. Including a laptop, you just have to install a Server Operating System, like Windows 2000 Server or Windows 2003 Server, or Linux with Apache server running. But if you plan a lot of traffic and use on the server you will need a computer with big processor, big memory, big hard disk.

A good Server Computer may cost like between 2000 and 5000 dollars, A big computer working like server can cost you 1500 dollars.
